Tragic Ending For Jennifer Hudson and Family

It’s been about three days since Jennifer Hudson—Academy Award-winning singer and actress—offered a $10,000 dollar reward for the safe return of her missing 7-year-old nephew, Julian King. King went missing last Friday (October 24, 2008) after local officials found Hudson’s mother, Darnell Donerson, and Hudson’s brother, Jason Hudson, shot to death in their Chicago home.

According to a statement released earlier today by the Chicago Police Department: “At approximately 7:06 A.M. a 1994 White Chevrolet Suburban bearing Illinois license plate X584859 and identified in the Amber Alert was located at 1313 S. Kolin. A body was discovered inside the Suburban, in the rear seat of the vehicle.”

The dead body was confirmed to be that of Julianne King, who bared a gunshot wound to the back of his head. A candlelight vigil was held outside of Hudson’s Chicago home earlier this evening to remember the lives that were lost in this tragedy. Police have not yet charged anyone for the crimes, but are confident that they will find the killer once forensic technicians complete their analysis of the crime scenes.

Words cannot express what Hudson and her family are going through after the loss of three loved ones to such a terrible crime. I was shocked after hearing the news on my local news station. During the news coverage, a person from the Chicago neighborhood explained to an on-site reporter that he heard the gunshots, but he said gunshots are common in that area so no one really thought anything of it. This story is just unfortunate in so many ways.

Danity Kane in Trouble

Is it goodbye for good to Aubrey and D. Woods? Millions watched the live finale of Making the Band 4, Season 3, and were shocked when they witnessed Diddy‘s dismissal of the two Danity Kane stars. I wasn’t much of a fan of the group to begin with, but I just can’t see the future of DK without all five original members.

Diddy claims that the group is facing internal problems amongst themselves, rather than with Diddy. I’m sure DK has problems with each other (like any band), but I think that there’s another aspect to their discontent—management. Clearly, the ending gave off a little sense that Diddy has some problems with his own group. He reacted so impulsively, which would indicate that maybe some of these things were boiling up over a long period of time (that we didn’t know about). In my opinion and from what I saw from all the seasons, Diddy really likes respect, and I guess Aubrey might have been too outspoken for him. I think Diddy assumed that the reason D. Woods felt any negativity towards him was due to Aubrey “influencing” her. So he basically said goodbye to Woods too.

Judging from the live appearance of the 3-member DK on MTV, the night the season finale aired, Dawn didn’t look too happy when Aubrey came onto the stage. She just turned really quiet and became very neutral in her expressions. Her energy beforehand was high, then Aubrey came out, and her energy seemed to just sink. This hints to me that the group’s internal problems will probably continue if Aubrey and D. Woods come back. Yet if they’re out for good, DK could be on shaky ground with fans and sales. What’s a businessman like Diddy to do?

The series will continue next year with Day 26, Donny Klang, and the official fate of Danity Kane.

Ra Ra Riot – The Rhumb Line 2008

If you haven’t heard of Ra Ra Riot, you’ve been missing out! Last week, I stumbled upon an interesting band name and was pleasantly surprised when I first heard their music. Their 2008 album, The Rhumb Line, is definitely a must in my book. With a group of talented band members, Ra Ra Riot comprises of Milo Bonacci (guitar), Alexandra Lawn (cello/vocals), Wesley Miles (keyboards/vocals), John Pike (co-writer/lyricist/vocalist and drummer), Mathieu Santos (bass guitar), and Rebecca Zeller (violin).

Captivating thousands of hearts from Syracuse, New York, Ra Ra Riot’s music pinpoints exactly what it feels like to be understood through music. Whether you are heartbroken over a love that will never bloom or feeling lost in nostalgic thought vs. change, this band will leave you feeling calm and at ease before the song even finishes. With lyrical ingenuity and beautiful music, Ra Ra Riot is living proof that music really is a gift to the world and to the individual soul. Maybe it’s just me, but you just gotta love music that keeps your feet tapping, your mind stimulated, and your ears happy!
